Regardless of the industry you work in, every worker deserves a safe environment. A workplace free from hazards and preventable risks, so you can fulfil your role and get home to your family safely at the end of the day.
This is why safety is more than just a box to tick — it’s a core value within the SAW company culture. From the executive team to the boots on the ground, we’re constantly striving to raise the bar when it comes to workplace safety.
Our recent SAW safety seminar
On June 6 we hosted a powerful safety seminar: ‘What Tragedy Looks Like’. The session was presented by Patrizia Cassaniti, an award-winning work health and safety advocate whose own devastating story of losing her 18-year old son Christopher in a workplace incident was a confronting reminder of the
importance of safety in construction.
Patrizia shared how complacency can have dire consequences, motivating us all to make safety a daily priority — not just for ourselves, but for our loved ones.
Our safety seminar also featured a presentation from industry experts, including Bingo Industries’ David, who shed light on the dangers of silica dust and proper disposal practices, and Gilad from Buildpass, who demonstrated the Buildpass platform’s impressive safety features while highlighting the importance of timely action and close-outs from all trades.
Gold standard of safety: ISO 45001 accreditation
Further to our safety seminar, we’re upholding our commitment to meeting the highest possible safety standards by currently pursuing ISO 45001 accreditation. ISO 45001 accreditation is an internationally recognised standard that outlines the requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) system and a framework for organisations to do the best job possible at managing risks and enhancing OH&S performance.
By the end of this quarter, we aim to attain this globally recognised certification, reinforcing our dedication to fostering a robust approach to occupational health and safety.
Harnessing tools to level up workforce safety
Safety doesn’t happen by chance — it takes deliberate effort and the right tools. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in upgrading and customising our safety management platform, Buildpass.
This cutting-edge system empowers our tradespeople and suppliers to flag potential hazards directly. This empowers everyone at SAW to lean into a culture of accountability and active participation at every level of our workforce.
Getting clear and collaborating
Effective communication lies at the heart of any successful safety program. Our regular Construction Control Meetings are designed to recognise this, offering collaborative sessions that bring together all project stakeholders.
These meetings serve as a vital forum to discuss safety concerns, identify potential risks and implement control measures across our building programs to do everything possible to minimise risk of harm.
Building a safe future for all
Looking ahead, we’ve adopted a delivery excellence ethos that places a premium on continuous learning and capacitybuilding. Our ambitious target? Providing 20 training units per employee this year alone, with a heavy emphasis on safety specific modules for our on-site personnel.
From scaffold tickets to hazard awareness, we’re committed to equipping our team with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe on the job.
At SAW Construction, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s a fundamental part of who we are. Through a multifaceted approach that blends technology, training, communication and a steadfast commitment to continuous improvement, we’re
paving the way for a safer, more secure future for our valued workforce.
